The Heart and Intellect of Character
Chisel
The word character is a Greek term that means chisel. Character is art & science and science & art is character. It is the intellectual and moral and the guiding core of our identity. character is what elevates you and your surroundings as long as we strive to develop the virtuous qualities to fight our inner attributes- the bestial, predatory and demonic must obey the angelic quality.
The Difference
A character trait is a set of conditions of the heart, action is simply an intentional movement of the body and we have to use the intellect with the help of the internal and external senses.
What needs chiselling are 3:
- Heart- Feelings are the unseen diseases
- Intellect- Thoughts that cloud the truth and misguide.
- Body- Intentional movement aligned with the internal senses.
Feelings
Unseen diseases such as ego can creep into our hearts and create an imbalanced state of being which blinds our intellect. These diseases misguide the moral compass and strangulate its internal light. Hence character development becomes IMPOSSIBLE in the presence of the diseases- even if you employ strategies to help develop character. These diseases lead to worry, frustration and fear enough to fill the ocean. The heart is the king and must be free from diseases.
Thought
The demonic attribute battles with the angelic quality daily without us realising, until we are put in the comfort zone. The demonic becomes so dominant because our own predatory and bestial attributes run wild and are comfortable in the zone. Demented thoughts cannot reflect on experiences and close the door of character cultivation which one cannot fulfil the essence of their existence.
Behaviour
The intellect and heart must function in harmony for consistent and stable human behaviour. It is not acceptable that one succeeds in the workplace but fails with family life. This is merely for business purposes in order to ensure a good reputation, position, power or popularity by being someone with moral character. We treat a psychological problem when one deviates away from the path of balance and choose wrongdoings. The deviation from the instinct principles of humans- consciously or unconsciously has severe consequences because one feels tightness expressed in form of depression and other negative manifestations.
Stability and Consistency
Character is when you persevere during a time of difficulty by adhering to your principles whether you are in the bedroom or boardroom- a consistent and stable character with no hypocrisy attached and free from unseen diseases of the heart. The intellect guides the moral compass by which the intentional movement of the body follows its navigation. This is the path to excellence.
